Early Tragedy
Before he was forced to choose a path between his father’s warrior life and the subtle crafts of his grandfather’s, fate and tragedy intervened. Antagur was six when a cave in struck without warning. Fifty persons including his parents and sisters were trapped. Mysteriously, a fire began, and the small spaces remaining to the trapped Ashakre began to fill with smoke. Anyatim began a spell to save her family and the others. She attempted to open a gate to outside her parents’ home. As soon as it formed she thrust her youngest child into the portal, but the spell was flawed. An invisible wall closed between them, and Antagur began to slowly recede from her along the intended path of the spell. He watched as his mother was struck by a falling rock and rendered unconscious. His sisters clustered around her but she would not wake. Smoke soon overcame them, and they too lay down for the last time. Still he heard the cries of the dying though he was trapped alone. Three days passed before the errant spell released him on his grandparents’ doorstep. It was many months before he recovered physically from his ordeal. He may never recover mentally or emotionally, During his magical sojourn, Antagur believes that Moloth spoke to him and told him he was her beloved child and her chosen one. Although many believe this to be a hallucination, Antagur now possessed the knowledge of some magics that no one could have taught him. Also, his ability to perceive and communicate with unseen beings had grown.

Although not of impeccable morals, Angarim took his new responsibility seriously. He and the boy traveled many places, and Angarim tried to instill in him a good set of values.
