The slave galleon was boarded and seized by mounted Torrian knights, liberating its cargo of bound souls. Among them were Carlo, Artimus, and Jarthul—who chose differing fates in the wake of freedom. Carlo remained with the Torrians, seeking purpose; Artimus and Jarthul struck out for Byrthian soil, where the former swiftly departed again, riding east in search of Bancroft and the city of Kandorr.
Meanwhile, Zorn departed Erelaan with Talionis as his mage and advisor, marshaling a campaign to reclaim Eatonshire and crush the scattered mercenary companies that infested its land. His allies were the Kelleck clan and Simon Windsor. Upon reaching the ruins of Eatonshire, they gathered and buried the dead, and it was here that Margaret discovered the relic known as the Drear Banisher, which she presented to Zorn. Scouts, led by Tasselhof, encountered Carlo and Jarthul in the wild and brought them into Zorn's growing host. Zorn placed Tasselhof in command of the medium cavalry.
Artimus eventually reunited with the army and impressed Zorn enough to earn a place among his trusted retinue. The host soon encountered Captain Krinlogue’s forces entrenched at Ailor’s Field. The ensuing slaughter was total—the mercenary host utterly annihilated.
Emboldened, Zorn and the Kellecks crossed the Silcough River, seizing weakened counties one by one in a wave of zealous conquest. Their campaign ended abruptly at Dellforth.
