Rafe Norwold
Red Rafe, as he is commonly known, is the temperamental and combative head of Clan Norwold. He assumed the mantle of family leadership after his father, two older brothers, and eldest sister were killed during the first siege of Kandorr, a battle he participated in as a young sword-bearer.
Years later Rafe later led his host on a second assault against Kandorr and was mortally wounded by Margaret Kelleck during the Battle of Coral Keep. It was only through the skills and quick-thinking of an apprentice war-mage, Aimery Tasker, that he survived. Due to the blow to his neck, Rafe speaks with a harsh rasp.
Rafe's actions in that battle and his refusal to honor a contract with the Crow Fodder Brotherhood sparked the War of the Blank Shields. He would have been taken hostage by Graham Grey-Eye and later killed alongside his peers had he not been injured and pulled from combat during the Battle of Coral Keep.
Rafe later led an assault on Tieremond against the Crow Cloaks and Grief Eaters, personally killing many infamous mercenaries and chasing them entirely out of Dellforth. From these deeds he is commonly known as Crow Eater by mercenaries. He incorporated the signature Crow Cloak overcoat into his wardrobe and added a broken black feather to his design. In his personal collection are the the skull and sword of of Graham Grey-Eye.
Rafe despises mercenaries and only barely tolerates the men of the Dread Legion he fought beside.
