War of the Malign Ascension
After the death of Corus the Immortal in Larkos, the lords of Avendell moved to outlaw intermarriage between their high-born and the Aelda and declared any scions of such unions as illegitimate in the ascension. They rose up against Corus's son, Marius, and moved to install Mesirnin Tasel as the king of Avandell.
Since no other outside realms could involve themselves directy in combat—lest they violate the Sycamore Accord—most foreign allies offered financial support instead. Noble families among the Malkosti, Belosians and Keldorasa loaned their resources and services to certain of the Avandellan houses.
The wars lasted 15 years and ended when Marius was killed at Peladun during the siege of that city. The final toll was the total extinction of the Great Houses of Ulwyn, Endros, Mortimas (and dozens of Lesser Houses), the ruin of houses Alastor and Croydan, the destruction of major cities of Corus and Erelaan, and the sack of Peladun.
